Position Summary:
Seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist for a temporary position with an expected 6 to 12 month duration. The ideal candidate will have experience managing full-cycle, high-volume payroll, including union and multi-state processing. This role requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Processing & Data Entry:
- Process full-cycle payroll using StarBuilder® accounting software
- Handle union and non-union payrolls across multiple states
- Collect, calculate, and enter employee time and payroll data
- Ensure all timesheets and timecards are complete, accurate, and properly authorized
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and union regulations
- Prepare certified payroll reports and ensure accurate pay treatment
- Calculate and process payroll liabilities, including taxes and unemployment
- Maintain compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act, accounting principles, and internal policies
- Conduct and support payroll audits (internal and external)
Recordkeeping & Documentation:
- Maintain and update payroll records (deductions, rates, union codes, job titles, etc.)
- Generate and maintain spreadsheets, payroll documentation, and related programs
- Complete employment verifications per legal and company standards
- Safeguard payroll information in line with company confidentiality policies
- Employee Support & Communication:
- Respond to employee and agency inquiries related to payroll, deductions, and reporting
- Meet all internal and external deadlines, including payroll schedules and union reporting
- Ensure accurate accruals for company benefit plans and union obligations
Qualifications:
- Proven experience with full-cycle payroll processing (union and multi-state preferred)
- Familiarity with StarBuilder® or similar payroll/accounting systems
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage sensitive information with discretion
